Xiaomi working on a Memory extension feature for MIUI

At present, mobile phone manufacturers are working to provide high RAM capacity for most mobile phones, but it is still not possible to find high RAM capacity in slightly cheaper mobile phones.

As a result, it is a bit difficult to use several apps at once on less expensive mobile phones. The solution is to use part of the mobile phone's storage as virtual RAM.

This is an option already used in computers and is known as Pagefile in Windows and Swap memory in Linux.

Currently, Xiaomi is also working to introduce such a feature to its users. That tipster, Kacper Skrzypek, discovered a feature called "Memory extension" in the source code of MIUI 12.

Vivo has previously offered a similar feature on the Vivo X60 Pro +, which is limited to 1GB capacity.

Since this memory extension feature is often very useful for older devices with low RAM capacity, it can be expected that this feature will not be limited to high-end Xiaomi phones.
