Previously limited to India, the Instagram Lite app is now available in 170 countries, including Sri Lanka. This Instagram Lite app is approximately 2MB in size and includes several basic features including Reels which are included in the Instagram app.

Instagram developers say that with the introduction of the Instagram lite app, users of entry level smartphones as well as users with limited data plans will be able to use the Instagram platform.


It is learned that they use several optimizations including image compression, CDN caching and have also removed some animations as well as AR filters to enhance the performance.

They are also working on adding a dark theme to the Instagram lite app.

The Instagram lite app is only available for Android devices and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
